RAMMED EARTH AND pLYWOOD HOUSE GOLD COAST
This house is located on a ridge with views east over a tree covered landscape to the city skyline, and landscape views of mountains and bush to the west and north. Due to the surrounding slopes and bush, the site has a BAL40 bushfire rating. The rammed earth and external materials generally are fire resistant. The house has a verandah on three sides, which allows the owners to move and adjust to the sun, wind and prevailing weather, while always offering a place to sit and take in the extensive views. From the interior, bi-fold doors open up to the north and east. A freestanding rammed earth wall forms a sheltered outdoor courtyard, with eastern views. The house has a Nathers 8.9 star energy efficiency rating, achieved through the thick rammed earth walls, well-insulated roof, and double-glazed windows and doors. The house was fine-tuned using FirstRate software during the early design stages, to optimise the energy efficency.
